ABOUT STACI

Staci is...
an NPR junkie
a cheese snob
left-handed
a hopeless bibliophile

Some of Staci's earliest memories are of watching her aunt quilt by hand on a large quilting loom. The loom stayed in the center of her aunt's living room in place of a coffee table and there was barely room to walk around it. Staci would hide under the loom and listen to her aunt and fellow quilters as they worked and talked. Staci still sleeps under a quilt that was made from her mother's clothes. Staci is privileged to be carrying on a tradition that has been so influential in her life. She uses the traditional quilt construction techniques that she learned as a small child as a medium to create small scale fine art pieces.

What makes Staci's work unique is the way in which she takes her fine art sensibilities and techniques and applies them to a medium which honors her ancestral traditions. Her goal in each of her art pieces is for the traditional to meet seamlessly with the modern aesthetic.

Staci's primary mixed media influence is the contemporary artist Dave McKean. His work incorporates painting, drawing, photography, collage, found objects, digital art and sculpture. He created an unique style of art, combining all of his pursuits into multimedia art pieces that are both striking and provocative. His work inspired her to also find a means to combine all of her passions into one art form.

Her painting style is greatly influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement, in that her paintings attempt to convey an emotional intensity with a non-figurative aesthetic. Staci's method of creation is also similar in that it emphasizes spontaneous or subconscious composition.

Man Ray, Minor White, Ralph Gibson, and Edward Weston have each had a major impact on Staci's photography style. She works primarily in high contrast black and white imagery. Her artistic focus in photography is to bring a new perspective to everyday objects.

Originally from London and Somerset, Kentucky, Staci has lived in Lexington for 11 years. She lives with her husband of seven years who is a computer wizard, wood turner, and superhero, and their four-year-old daughter who draws and paints much better than Staci. She has a seventeen year old stepdaughter that is much calmer than Staci was at her age, for which Staci is very grateful.

Staci is an adjudicated artist of the State of Kentucky. Her work is displayed in exhibits and art shows nationally. She has won several regional awards and has had two pieces displayed in the Kentucky State Capitol.

Her favorite color is chartreuse.

Please feel free to send Staci an email if you have any further questions.
